Really great MP3 August 30, 2010

I have had my Sony NWZ-S545RED for about a week. I am not particularly tech savvy but I am very happy to say that I didn't need to be. I was able to sync with my laptop and download my music without a hitch. I love that it has a good FM radio, especially for when the power goes out (I live in a remote area but the Walkman is powerful enough to pull in several stations). It has a great battery life and is very easy to use. I also love that it has external speakers (not great but for a small device certainly adequate) My only complaint is the screen. Thankfully I had read that it scratches easily so I was careful not to let anything near it. Still it got a small scratch, I am using clear packing tape on it till my screen protector arrives. Other than that I am very happy with my purchase. For my purposes it suits me perfectly, and I would highly recommend this walkman to anyone.

Like im sure some other's mentioned, it only comes with 14.7 gigs or something like that. Also, its really picky about which video formats and stuff it plays, but if you can get it to AVI then use the content transfer thing, its not bad at all. One small thing that bugs me is you cant change the background picture, which is really a disappointment once you see the picture quality. Recording is decent, although i only tried it once or twice in lecture cause i was bored. Music quality is good, you get a couple crappy EQ setting along with two custom ones, which are hard to tune but good once you get it right. Video is decent but i definitely wouldnt watch anything over 15 min on it. Speakers are eeehhh (DONT USE THE SP OPTIMIZER) but work. Playlists do lag like crazy when you try to pick a song, but once it starts playing a song its fine. I use this as an everyday device in college and i havent had any problems yet (have had it for a year or so). Overall good product, would definitely recommend it for a low budget, quality player without all the bells and whistles.

I've been using the Walkman for a few weeks and I'm very impressed with it. The battery life lasts a lot longer than my ipod nano 5th generation, seemed to drain quicker to me for some reason. The audio quality is very good and had no problem navigating through the menu to get where I needed to go. The outside speakers are actually located on the back and not the front of the player and sound ten times better than the ipod nano. Voice recording playback sounds ok, I think most people don't use that feature but it's nice to have. FM radio does tend to have some static depending where the player is at, but I think most mp3 players have that problem (except for Zune HD with HD radio). Also you can record any FM radio station for 99 minutes and keep the songs recorded, the nano can only record 15 minutes temporarily. There is an alarm function and any kind of music or voice recording can be used to wake someone up, I use it most of the time if my clock alarm doesn't go off. Haven't tried watching any movies or put any pictures on it yet but the demo pictures and video clips it comes with look good. I do recommend getting a case or screen protector because I did drop it a few times and scratched up the screen pretty good. Overall very good mp3 player and I recommend it to anyone that wants useful features plus great sound.

I've been a fan of Sony for quite a long time so choosing a Sony Walkman as the next portable player is, of course, not time-taking.
There are no doubts about the sound quality of the player (especially when I pair it with an Audio Technica Pro Studio Monitor Headphones) or the battery life (after a full charge, I left it playing continuously for nearly 24 hours and still 3/4 battery bars remain).
Copying music into the player is never easier, just drag & drop, you can create 1 folder for each genre/group of music and let it plays by folder (I'm tired of touching the artists, play-lists...)
The speakers sound nice and loud, it means that you won't need a mini speaker for a picnic or family camping any more.
The only 2 cons that make it 4/5 stars for me, first is the screen. One could not expect a touchscreen for that price but at least the resolution or the color quality should be better. I'm not interested in watching videos or pictures on such a small device but the screen color makes it look cheaper than it is.
The other cons is that a charger is not included in the package, so you have to buy a charger separately if you don't want to charge through PC (take longer time and would shorten the battery life after a few charges)
In short, if you are looking for a device for pure music listening then this is the one I recommend.
